Disaat Apple dan Google (beserta droid zombienya) bersengketa di beberapa negara terkait produk smartphone dan tabletnya, diam diam amazon mencuri momentum dengan merilis tabletnya sendiri yang dinamakan kindle Fire pada rabu 28 September. Tablet yang ditujukan sebagai next generation e-book reader ini didukung spesifikasi tablet kelas atas pada umumnya seperti processor dual core, wifi, layar dengan teknologi IPS (Setara iPad), layar kapasitatif multitouch anti gores dan berat dibawah 500 gram, ditambah kekuatan amazon yaitu konten buku, film dan musik. Kekurangan dari tablet ini hanyalah tidak adanya perangkat telefoni dan data 3G, Bluetooth, serta HDMI yang bisa dimaklumi karena perangkat ini memang didesain sebagai e-book reader.
Tablet ini dibangun dari android versi lama yang didesain untuk smartphone ( dipercaya Froyo) dan dilengkapi dengan user interface khusus yang memudahkan akses ke lebih dari 100.000 film dan pertunjukan televisi, 17 Juta Lagu, Jutaan Buku dan ribuan buku anak anak yang diilustrasikan dengan Indah.
